KyberRobot competition at the University of Liberec: robots watered the greenhouse and competed in table football

The Technical University of Liberec once again became the venue for the prestigious KyberRobot competition, which combines creativity, technology and robotics in one exciting day full of innovation. This sixteenth year attracted 42 teams from primary and secondary schools and presented a fascinating spectrum of robotic projects – from autonomous irrigation systems for greenhouses to sophisticated robots controlling table football. The competition, organized by the Faculty of Mechatronics, Informatics and Interdisciplinary Studies at TUL, traditionally supports young talents in the field of robotics in the Czech Republic and brings inspiration for the next generations of innovators within the framework of Czech STEM initiatives.

Liberec greenhouse with robotic irrigation system as a winning example of innovation in KyberRobot

The most outstanding project that impressed the jury was the small but highly sophisticated automated greenhouse Auskle. Designed and assembled by students of the Dobrovský Elementary School in Lanškroun, Filip Resler and Petr Špirka, it was able to adjust the conditions for plants with the help of the Micro:bit microcomputer – from controlling temperature and soil moisture to opening windows and turning on the heating. This inventive construction not only helped with growing, but also reflected the practical benefits of robotics for everyday life in agriculture and gardening.

Thanks to its complexity and dexterity, the Auskle project not only won first place in the Robot, a Helper for People – Older Pupils category, but also the prestigious Children’s University Award. This success underlines the importance of connecting education and practical applications of technology within the KyberRobot competition at the Technical University of Liberec.

Robot Table Football: Combining Fun and Technical Skills

Another interesting contribution was the robot-controlled table football, which František Mareš demonstrated together with his friends from the same school. This robotics team used a microcomputer to control the motors that turned the model’s rods. Inspired by a simple game on vacation, they created a device that achieved second place in the competition. The project not only showed how robotics can be used in a game, but also emphasized that technical skills and creativity go hand in hand with youthful enthusiasm and cooperation.

Experiences that shape future robotic talents within the KyberRobot Competition

KyberRobot, also known as the prestigious Czech Robot Competition, is a platform where students not only demonstrate their technical projects, but also try out performing in front of a jury that evaluates both creativity and functionality and the way of presenting the robotic structures. Competitors not only go through programming and design challenges, but also get to know the environment of the university’s Robotics Laboratory TUL, which opens up new perspectives for their studies and careers in the field of robotics Czech Republic.

According to the organizers and the Dean of the Faculty of Mechatronics, Informatics and Interdisciplinary Studies, Josef Černohorský, the KyberRobot competition helps develop children’s interest in technology, programming and creativity, thereby supporting the Czech STEM ecosystem and educational trends that ensure the continuous development of innovations in the Czech Republic.

Autonomous robots in action: a competition of rescue structures

In addition to creative helpers in the form of greenhouses and table football players, exciting competitive races of autonomous robots of category B took place in front of the university premises: Autonomous robot – rescuer. The task of the participants was to use robotic structures to go through the maze as quickly as possible. This sub-race attracted not only local talents, but also competitors from other regions, thus confirming the ever-growing popularity of the competition as a key university event in the field of robotics.
