Karviná is preparing to open a gigantic greenhouse in 2028: See its future appearance

The Karviná Greenhouse project represents a significant change for the Karviná region, transforming it from an area affected by coal mining into a modern and environmentally friendly area. The gigantic Greenhouse, known as Eden Silesia, will not only be a scientific research and educational park, but also a significant element in improving public space and access to nature. This ambitious plan combines innovative architecture, ecology and community development and paves the way for a more sustainable future for agriculture and recreation in the Karviná region.

The Future of Karviná with Karviná Greenhouse and Eden Silesia

The giant Karviná Greenhouse, which is part of the Eden Silesia project, will be spread over an area of approximately 60 hectares and will offer a unique experience of sustainable development and landscape reclamation. This gigantic greenhouse, designed by the London-based studio Grimshaw, is called Gaia, symbolizing the connection with planet Earth, and is designed for energy-passive operation, which is a fundamental step towards an ecological Karviná.

The project enjoys the support not only of the Silesian University, but also of the city of Karviná and the Moravian-Silesian Region, which co-determine the last 5% of the costs by contributing the value of the land to the project. The total eligible costs reach 2.55 billion crowns and an application for European funding has already been submitted.

Innovative education and sustainable development under one roof

KariVina Greenhouse will not only be a place for growing plants, but above all a center for education and scientific research. Cooperation with the Faculty of Horticulture of Mendel University in Brno will bring unique study programs focused on the regeneration of nature and the stability of ecosystems. This educational aspect is key to the Green Future project, which prepares experts capable of revitalizing the landscape and developing Moravian vegetables using modern methods of solving environmental and agricultural challenges.

The area will be open to the general public, from preschool children to seniors, and will offer a combination of educational and entertainment activities focused on ecology, agriculture and sustainable development of the region.

The importance of the Farma Karviná and České Skleníky project for the region

The Giant Greenhouse in Karviná also represents a chance to modernize agriculture in the region. It brings opportunities for highly efficient cultivation using advanced technologies that significantly reduce environmental burden. This model combines the principles of organic farming with innovations in greenhouse vegetable cultivation, inspired by successful garden greenhouses and modern polycarbonate structures available at majowo.cz.

The project will support the development of Agroholding Morava, which cooperates in the development and implementation of modern techniques in local agriculture, thereby contributing to increasing the quality and availability of local food and at the same time developing the Green Future of the region.

Ecological Karviná and the transformation of public spaces

In addition to Eden Silesia itself, other projects are being created in Karviná aimed at beautifying and ecologically restoring the urban landscape. The renovation of public spaces, such as the plots near Permon or Gagarin Square, together with the transformation of the U Skleníku area in Karviná-Ráj, increases the quality of life of residents and brings them closer to nature.

Challenges and expectations in the period leading up to the opening of the Gigantic Greenhouse in 2028

The Skleník Karviná project is demanding not only from a technical point of view, but also in terms of coordination between institutions and securing financing. In 2025, an application for European support has already been submitted and is awaiting approval, which could financially secure the project. It is expected that the opening of this unique complex will take place in 2028, when the training of new generations of landscape restoration experts will also begin.

If everything goes according to plan, Karviná will become a major center not only for organic farming and scientific research, but also a tourist attraction that will help redefine the future of this region and pave the way for other projects called Future of Agriculture.
